Brain Candy (2011)

for Pierrot Sextet (fl, cl, vln, vlc, pno, perc)

Duration: 9 min.

Premiere: Performed at the Stony Brook University Composers’ Concert on March 29, 2011 by Ray Furuta (flute), Allison Aldrich (clarinet), Natalie Kress (violin), David Cecil (cello), Michael Smith (piano), and Josh Perry (percussion).

“Brain Candy” (2011), for Pierrot ensemble, tries not to take itself too seriously. While pondering concepts of pop culture versus “high art,” I decided to write a piece that would bridge (or at least explore) that gap. This piece was inspired by videogame landscapes and by gaming experiences of destruction, creation, and exploration.
